Venezuelan Film: "La Planta insolente"

When: Tuesday, October 23, 2018, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Where: Wentworth Institute • Luther H. Blount Auditorium, Annex Central • 550 Parker Street • Boston

"La Planta Insolente" reproduces the historical moment when Cipriano Castro, then president of Venezuela, proclaimed: "The insolent plant of the foreigner has descrecated the sacred soil of the fatherland!" while the coasts were invaded by imperial forces in 1902.

The Venezuelan crisis of 1902-03 was a naval blockade imposed against Venezuela by the United Kingdom, Germany and Italy, over President Castro's refusal to pay for debts and damages suffered by European citizens in the Venezuelan civil war.  The US allowed the action to go ahead without objection.
