Cape Wind made history when it was first proposed in 2001. Now, 14 years later, the nation’s first offshore wind farm is in trouble. Last month, National Grid and NSTAR withdrew their commitments to purchase power from Cape Wind. Their decision jeopardizes the future of Cape Wind -- and the future of offshore wind in the United States.

We need wind turbines, not gas pipelines -- and we need to start by building Cape Wind!

Now, following a ruling by the Nebraska Supreme Court, the decision about the pipeline is once again in Obama’s hands.

Vermont Yankee Closed

After decades of protest, radioactive tritium leaks, a collapsed cooling tower and about 3000 spent fuel rods "temporarily" stored on the roof in spent fuel pools, Vermont Yankee powered down on December 29.

Vermont Yankee was one of the GE Mark I reactors - the same design as the three Fukushima reactors that melted down in the 2011 earthquake disaster in Japan.

New York State Bans Fracking!

A true people's victory has been won by New York anti-fracking activists!

According to Wenonah Hauter, the executive director of Food & Water Watch, in a Common Dreams post, despite a sense that fracking was "inevitable" in New York state, several organizations worked together with a goal of banning fracking.

Quaker Pray-In at Brayton Point

A group of about 20 people - mostly Friends (Quakers) from The Religious Society of Friends in Cambridge - gathered for worship at the gate to the Brayton Point Electric Plant in Somerset, MA on Saturday afternoon, December 6.
