Vicky SteinitzHaving failed twice before, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and BU filed a Rsik Assessment to explain how the risks associated with placing a high-level biocontainment laboratory (the “Biolab”), that would test pathogens like ebola and the plague, are acceptable for an urban community.

BSL 4 Lab in Boston Still Facing Local Opposition

The National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratory (NEIDL), a high-security biolab constructed at Boston University, has been stalled by regulatory reviews and community opposition for nearly a decade. This month the lab finally started work at the Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) and hopes to expand into its full intended capacity of conducting BSL-3 and BSL-4 research.

BU Students Protest Bio-Lab

Boston University students opposing their school’s desire to build a Biosafety Level-4 lab in Roxbury are working to put a stop to the construction of what they deemed an “environmentally racist and f—– up plan.”

The students, who held a meeting in the Women’s Resource Center on Wednesday, created an anti-Biolab group in an effort to hamper the administration’s “scary project.”
