“What is Progressive Islam” with Ani Zonneveld

The talk “What is Progressive Islam” will define the alternative and traditional interpretations of Islam in contrast to the current belief system. The issue of Sharia law, women, LGBT rights, apostasy, music, hijab, women imam and all the hot topics will be covered. Ani’s talk will cover the problems, the solutions and the work she’s doing in the U.S., the U.N. and globally. Ani Zonneveld is Founder and President of Muslims for Progressive Values (MPV). She has organized numerous interfaith arts and music festivals and is a strong supporter of women and LGBTQ rights.

His Youtube video lectures garner gazillions of views. His activist work on behalf of the Palestinian people is extraordinary.

Michael Dukakis was nominated by President Clinton for a five-year term as a member of the Board of Directors of Amtrak, The National Railroad Passenger Corporation on May 21, 1998 and was confirmed by the Senate on June 25, 1998. He served a full five-year term on the Amtrak Board as Vice-Chairman.

Gary Leupp will review the course of U.S.–Russian relations since 1991, from the decade-long honeymoon with the Yeltsin regime to the Putin era. Leupp will discuss the Ukrainian situation in historical context, emphasizing the ethnic divide in that country and how the February 2014 regime change backed by the U.S. provoked a much misunderstood secessionist movement. Leupp will comment on the unpredictable Trump positions on Russia. Gary Leupp is an Author and Professor of History, Tufts University, since 1988.

Reiner Braun has been a leading figure in the German and European peace movements since the early 1980s.  His connections with movements and political figures from Manila to Moscow and Berlin to Buenos Aries is extraordinary. He is currently Co-president of the International Peace Bureau as was the lead organizer of IPB’s massive Disarm! For a Climate of Peace! Congress in Berlin this past October. He was the founder of the No to NATO/No to War International Network.  He has long been associated with International Network of Engineers and Scientists for Global Responsibility (INES), the Max Planck Institute and the International Association of Lawyers Against Nuclear Arms.

Reiner is currently involved in planning activities for the Nuclear Weapons Prohibition Treaty negotiations at the United Nations in March and June, as well as counter-NATO-summit activities and for the NPT PrepCom in Vienna – both in May.

Reiner Braun is a highly informed, sharp and long-time critic of U.S., European and Russian foreign and military policies. He will be in Boston as part of a national speaking tour organized by the American Friends Service Committee and Peace Action, and United for Peace and Justice.
