Dispatch from Nepal: Interview with Comrade Gaurav

Nepal is rapidly approaching a deadline of May 28, 2010, when the tenure of its Constitutional Assembly (CA) will expire. The UCPN (Maoist) emerged as the largest single party to be voted in by the Nepali electorate in the 2008 CA elections, but they resigned from power when Prachanda, Chairman of the party, was blocked by the President in an attempt to dismiss the chief of staff of the Nepali Army for opposing greater civilian control of the army.

I have come to Hiroshima on a pilgrimage for peace.

Every world leader should join us along this path.

No US Intervention in Syria, implement the ceasefire now

UJP is deeply concerned about the conflict in Syria, which has resulted in thousands of deaths and much destruction.  Given Syria's central geographic and political position, the conflict has potential to widen into a wider and disastrous Middle East war.  We call for an end to the violence and beginning of peaceful dialogue among all Syrians to determine the best way forward to reduce tensions and resolve deep differences.  We urge all parties to begin by strictly observing the ceasefire.
