As both an ordained UCC minister and a member of the Supreme Court bar, I take both religion and the law seriously.  However, both have been distorted by ultra-conservatives.  Using the bogus theory of "originalism" (just do what the Founders wanted) and adding a claim that the Bible contains all the policy answers you need has lead to an incredibly dangerous atmosphere. Congress and the Courts have become corrupted.  Sadly, what is going on with COVID-19 may help prove that point.

Barry W. Lynn is both an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ and a member of the Supreme Court bar. Lynn served as legislative counsel for both the UCC's Office For Church in Society and the ACLU's national office and then for 25 years served as Executive Director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. He and is wife are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in June, they have 2 wonderful children and twin granddaughters.
