The Chinese Communist Party held its important Nineteenth Party Congress in October, which made decisions setting the political direction for the next five years and longer.  General Secretary Xi Jinping announced China's transition to a New Era of developed socialism and the renewal of the nation, an ambitious goal to be achieved by 2050 step-by-step.  What are the features of the New Era, how will it be accomplished and what are the obstacles to be overcome?
Trump's Asia tour in early November is his longest overseas trip since becoming president and has substantial impact on US-China relations, including handling of the Korea crisis and the economic relationship.  What is the situation of US-China relations today?
Duncan McFarland, coordinator of China education programs at the CME, will make a presentation on these questions and others, followed by discussion.
