The Rhode Island Antiwar Committee has announced an antiwar demonstration in Providence at Burnside Park, downtown, from 5 to 6:30 PM on Friday, August 29.  The demo is in conjunction with President Obama's planned visit to Rhode Island on that date to attend a private fund-raiser in Newport.

The antiwar rally follows the AFSC-sponsored vigil for Gaza and to end the occupation, which is from 4 to 5:00 PM.  Vigilers will gather on the corner of Exchange Street and Exchange Terrace, at the end of Burnside Park facing the Post Office.   The AFSC vigil has been endorsed by RIAC.

The RI Antiwar Committee has approved the following positions for the antiwar demonstration:

  • Stop police brutality in communities of color from Palestine to Ferguson.
  • End the militarization of US cities.
  • End all attacks on Gaza/Palestine.
  • No US troops or drones in the Middle East.
  • End all US aid to Israel.
  • No NSA spying on private citizens.
