Danger in the Sky over the East China Sea; Is China/Japan/US Conflict on the Horizon?

Thursday, December 12th – 7 to 8:30 PM

550 Mass. Ave., floor 2, Cambridge (Central Square)

The China Discussion Group will review the recent tension in East Asia.  Recently China reasserted its old claims and declared an Air Identification Zone over the East China Sea; soon there were flyovers by the US with B52 bombers and Japanese aircraft.  China responded by tracking the flights and scrambling jets.  The ongoing dispute between China and Japan over the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands is only made worse by US interference.  We will review the recent incidents, provide historical background and also discuss in relation to the formation of a Chinese National Security Council at the November meeting of the Chinese Communist Party.
