Choosing Peace

A community gathering and prayer service to clarify the call to recommit ourselves to choosing peace and building human community across all lines of potential division.

Sister Masako Miyake, a Catholic nun from Hiroshima. Music, singing, and presentations forming around the theme of the peace walk i.e. viewing the Boston Marathon Bombing and and other current expressions of deadly violence through the lens of the ultimate lethal force of nuclear weapons.

We will also present suggestions of concrete action including circulating petitions to president Obama that the US commit to leadership for a nuclear-free world at the upcoming UN meeting in September, building supprt for Representative Barbara Lee's Legislation to create a cabinet-level department of Peace Building, and circulating the unanimous endorsement of the US conference of mayors for the Global Mayors for Peace program calling for abolition of nuclear weapons.
