SUPPORT THE SAFE COMMUNITIES ACT

Immigrant residents of Massachusetts are terrified by Pres. Trump’s assault on their lives and liberties and ICE’s stepped up efforts to detain and deport them.  State action to reaffirm immigrants’ constitutional rights and to protect against detention and deportation is more urgent than ever.

Obama Stands Up to Trump (and Israel); UN Condemns Settlements

by Phyllis Bennis

Just a few hours ago, the Security Council passed a resolution condemning Israeli settlements, demanding a complete end to settlement activity, and holding the settlements a violation of international law. For the first time, the US allowed such a resolution to pass – abstaining rather than vetoing the resolution as it always had in the past. The resolution's passage was a huge slap in the face to Donald Trump’s overnight efforts, with Israel and Egypt, to seize control of Middle East diplomacy weeks before he is inaugurated as president.

UNITE TO MOBILIZE FOR PEACE, JUSTICE AND STOPPING THE WARS

Statement by United for Justice with Peace (Boston)

UJP calls on the peace and antiwar community to support both local and national protests of the Trump presidency during inauguration week and the women's rights march in January.  We need to oppose racist appointments and many other actions and policies, and promote our alternative vision of peace and social justice.

The 2016 presidential campaign barely mentioned the wars abroad; both candidates had a pro-war stance disregarding considerable public skepticism about the wars.  The massive war economy and war budget is a major contributor to the income inequality that fueled the anger and discontent of much of the electorate, both Democratic and Republican.

Tell President Obama to end the bombing campaign against Libya

! It was US overthrow of Gaddafi in 2011 that led to the crisis in Libya today. Will we ever learn our lesson that US military intervention is not the answer?

Activists defeat anti-BDS legislation in Massachusetts

Nora Barrows-Friedman Activism and BDS Beat 20 July 2016

Note: UJP is active in both the Water Justice coalition and the BDS campaign.

Boston activists protesting water rights violations by Israel also urged lawmakers to reject an anti-BDS bill in the Massachusetts state senate, 14 July. (Barbara Wilhelm)

An anti-boycott amendment was withdrawn in the Massachusetts senate on 14 July following a campaign by Palestine solidarity groups.

The amendment, which was tacked onto an unrelated economic bill, would have blacklisted individuals and businesses that engage with the Palestinian-led boycott of Israel.

Amendment 133 was withdrawn within just a few hours of being proposed by Massachusetts State Senator Cynthia Creem.
