Gaza March
We had previously endorsed it (and got a thank-you letter).
We agreed tonight to send a $50 donation.
There will be an event as part of First Night – near Park St?
Counter-Recruitment
Paul reported that Katherine Fisher is volunteering to help UJP with this work. She attended the counter-recruitment conference in the summer.
Maggie reported that Milton does counter-recruitment work. Katherine to talk to Maggie.
Alex Fried of Durham SDS is a good contact.
Katherine is asked to go to the Community Brunch, ask about the state of counter-recruitment work in community groups and brainstorm how to expand it.
Afghanistan Escalation Response
We will respond to any escalation when it is announced
Will coordinate with STWC & Code Pink (and others?) to come up with common demands, date, place and time
We propose:
· the day after, 5pm – or noon if the day after is a Saturday
· at Fountain in the common (which is across from the recruiting center) -
Moving picket line – no permit required if we keep moving (they don’t bother us)
Bring a sound system – Speakers - Bring candles
Media – press release ahead of time
Afghanistan task force to coordinate this project
UJP planning group
The strategy conference adopted the new structure, posted on the web site at http://justicewithpeace.org/structure.
Each member group is asked to appoint its representative – ideally to attend the planning group meetings and obtain voting rights, but at least to join the planning group listserv and exchange information and views.
We welcomed Maggie who is the new representative from Milton.
Cole to remind members to do that, then followup calls are to be divided up.
