2012 Nov 8 - 4:00pm
2012 Nov 8 - 5:30pm
Sponsored by Lesley University’s Graduate School of Arts and Social Sciences Diversity Committee

Last year, A Child’s View of Gaza, a book of Palestinian children’s artwork, was slated for  exhibition at  the Oakland Museum of Children’s Art.

However, in September 2011, the art exhibit of children's drawings was banned by the Museum of Children’s Art (MOCHA) in Oakland, CA at the last minute, without explanation.

Barbara Lubin, Founder and Executive Director of the Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA), will speak both about the art exhibit itself, the censorship surrounding the exhibit, as well as discuss the conditions on the ground in Gaza. She is a life-long peace, justice and disability rights activist.

Much of the artwork in the exhibit was drawn by children participating in Middle   East   Children's  Alliance  (MECA)  "Let   the   Children   Play   And Heal" Project. “Let the Children Play and Heal” gives tens of thousands of children and youth in Gaza opportunities to express themselves though art, dance, music, story-telling, theatre and puppetry; to get support from the larger community; and to have fun and just be children.   It was developed to address the needs of traumatized children after the 2009 assault on Gaza and provide much needed psychosocial support.
