The Facts About the U.S. Budget/Debt
The Walpole Peace and Justice Group is sponsoring a ‘fact checking’ informational meeting on the Federal budget and debt on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the Community Room of the Walpole Public Library. (The Walpole Peace and Justice Group is not affiliated with either the Walpole Public library or the Town of Walpole.) There has been a wide-ranging debate in this election year over the best way to balance the budget. Using sources like National Priorities Project and the Congressional Budget Office, this meeting will provide background information on the U.S. budget and debt, allowing people to make their own informed decisions in regard to resolution of these issues. The session will be helpful in understanding Question 4 in Walpole, Question 5 in Norwood. The referendum question asks voters whether they support proposals to: protect Social Security, Medicare and other vital programs; invest in useful jobs; end offshore tax havens and tax cuts on the highest incomes; reduce the military budget and bring all troops home safely from Afghanistan NOW; re-direct the savings into job creation and public services that our families need.
