“Postcards from Leningrad” Venezuela's Official Submission to the Best Foreign Language Film Category of the 80th Annual Academy Awards (2008), written and directed by Mariana Rondón.
Synopsis
During the leftist uprising in the 1960s in Venezuela, a young guerrilla-girl, living in secrecy, gives birth to her first daughter during Motherś day Due to that, her photos appear on the newspaper, since that moment they'd have to run away.
Hidden places, false disguises and names are the daily life of THE GIRL, the narrator of the story. Alongside with her cousin (Teo), they re-live the adventures of their guerrilla parents, building up a labrynth with superheroes and strategies, in which nobody knows where the reality (or madness) begins. However, this children's game does not hide the deaths, tortures, denunciations and treasons within the guerrillas.
The kids want to convert themseleves into the invisible man, in order to escape from the danger. However, they know that their parents might never comeback and therefore, they'll only receive Postcards from Leningrad.

Postales de Leningrado un film venezolano escrita y dirigido por Mariana Rondón y estrenada en 2007, está ambientada en el conflicto armado que enfrentó a las guerrillas de las FALN contra el ejército venezolano durante la década de los 60ś.
Sinopsis
Una joven guerrillera de las Fuerzas Armadas de Liberación Nacional debe dar a luz en la clandestinidad. Sin embargo, su hija es la primera en nacer durante el Día de las Madres, por lo que sus imágenes aparecen en todos los periódicos venezolanos de esa jornada. A partir de este momento, ambas se verán obligadas a huir. La niña, narradora de la película, junto con su primo Teo, reinventará la realidad que la rodea creando una serie de juegos, historias y disfraces en los que aparecen superhéroes y guerrilleros. Sin embargo estos juegos no logran ocultar las torturas, muertes y desapariciones del entorno de los niños.
Premios y reconocimientos
La película ha sido una de las mayores producciones venezolanas, así como una de las más reconocidas a nivel internacional. Fue la candidata a los óscar por Venezuela y galardonada en el Festival de cine de América Latina de Biarritz como mejor largometraje.
