The House is voting on the 2013 Defense Appropriations bill this week. This mammoth waste of taxpayer dollars and destroyer of true national security, representing 57% of the money to be appropriated by Congress this year, will spend:
- $82 billion to continue the pointless and failed war in Afghanistan
- $519 billion for the base Pentagon budget, complete with bases circling the globe and extravagant weapons systems that don't work
Meanwhile, last week money for food stamps was deleted from the Farm Bill, which would cause hundreds of thousands of low income children could lose their school lunches and 2-3 million Americans to go hungry, "because we can't afford it".
We will deliver letters to Senators Kerry and Brown asking them to vote against this bill when it reaches the Senate-- unless it has been amended to end the Afghanistan conflict and to significantly cut the base military budget.
