Michelle Alexander's The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, on course to sell 200,000 copies, has been hailed by Cornel West as "a grand wake-up call in the midst of a long slumber of indifference to the poor and vulnerable."

On April 25, Michelle Alexander will be coming to Boston to deliver that wake-up call in person. With our state legislature contemplating "Stand Your Ground" legislation similar to that implicated in the killing of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin, and threatening to pass a "Three Strikes" bill strongly opposed by its Black Caucus, her visit could hardly be more timely.

Featuring Michelle Alexander with discussants:

  • Rahsaan Hall, Deputy Director, Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law
  • Bruce Western, Professor of Sociology, Harvard University
  • Moderated by: Carol Rose, Executive Director, ACLU of Massachusetts

Please join the discussion with Michelle Alexander at this event co-sponsored by the ACLU of Massachusetts, the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race & Justice, and the Prison Studies Project.
