UJP Statement in Support of the Palestinian Call for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Against Israel

United for Justice with Peace has historically supported the Palestinians’ struggle for self-determination and the end to Israeli occupation.  We are deeply concerned about the deteriorating conditions of life in the Occupied Territories, and particularly the brutal assault and ongoing siege on Gaza.  We are also alarmed at the recent rightward shift in the Israeli government and its threat to the Palestinian citizens of Israel.

In solidarity, UJP supports the call of Palestinian Civil Society, as expressed in its July, 2005 Call, signed by hundreds of Palestinian refugees, human rights and cultural organizations and unions, to support a world-wide campaign of "Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel Until it Complies with International Law and Universal Principles of Human Rights".

We urge our constituent and allied groups and organizations to engage in BDS actions that will most effectively support the people of Palestine.

This statement was adopted by UJP in 2009 after an open public forum devoted to discussing the question.
